This test determines the rate and magnitude of consolidation of a soil sample contained laterally and subjected to a series of successive increments of vertical loads.
The edometer consists of a rigid aluminum alloy frame to avoid any distortion under load. The lever arm assembly is supported on precision spherical bearings and has three suspension positions for ratios of 9: 1, 10: 1, and 11: 1. Fitted edometers with linear potentiometric transducers can be connected to the data acquisition unit.
