In conventional triaxial testing, the stiffness of a soil sample is determined by external displacement measurement. Such measurements are subject to errors caused by deflections of the loading system and bedding of the porous stone at the ends of the specimen.
Local axial and radial strain transducers avoid these problems by providing the opportunity to measure the strain, with high accuracy, directly on the triaxial specimen.
